- An older woman.
- The cancer sequence being: diagnosis, hair loss, recovery. DONE.
This movie showed a young girl having cancer and had powerful "cancer" scenes in my opinion that are never really showed in a movie of this genre. So yeah it tugged at my heart strings.
Furthermore, something I really pay attention to when I watch a movie is the score and soundtrack. This one was HORRIBLE! I understand they were trying to set the "tone" but fuck a duck if I had to hear one more acoustic coffee house ballad. It was distracting to me.
So, the movie ends and as I get up from my seat and begin my review as my mom and I walk back to the car we both right off the bat gave it a "that was good." Then after I got over all the crying I had just done in a movie theater, my wheels started turning. There were a lot of inconsistencies in the movie, as well as unnecessary scenes and lose ends. I still would have liked it to have the ending from the book, but I understand why it didn't. The target audience for this movie would not have received it well. They don't want a "real world" ending. They want their movies happily ever after wrapped in a big pink bow and that is fine. By the time I made it to the car both of our minds had changed a bit.
Verdict: B-/C+ Depending on what kind of mood you catch me in. Glad I saw it once...would have been satisfied had I rented it. I don't see a future for it in my DVD collection, however I probably will watch it again in a few years on TBS.
